Automotive lead reactivation
Automotive lead reactivation means going back to car, lease and finance enquiries that never converted and booking the next step: a callback, a test drive or a showroom visit. US dealers call parts of it data mining or equity mining. Setterly does it by two-way SMS, and you pay per booked appointment.

Lead reactivation for car dealers and leasing brokers is contacting people who enquired about a car, a lease or finance and did not go ahead, to find out where they are now and book the next step. For a leasing broker that is usually a callback with a lease specialist. For a dealer it is a test drive, a showroom visit or a call with sales.
You will also see it called database reactivation. US dealers talk about data mining and equity mining: using sales, service and finance records to find customers worth contacting, often those whose current agreement puts them in a good position to change car (AutoAlert). Lead reactivation covers that, and also the much larger pile of people who simply enquired and were never reached.
Car and leasing enquiries mostly go cold because the reply was slow or stopped too early, while the customer kept shopping elsewhere.
In a 2026 mystery shop of UK dealers, Impel found a median out-of-hours reply time of 13 hours 12 minutes on new car enquiries, and around a third of dealers stopped after one attempt. In the same report, text converted at 14% against about 8% for email (Impel, vendor figures). Car Dealer Magazine reported that 55% of buyers expect a reply within three hours (Car Dealer Magazine).
Leasing is a comparison market. When the Moneyshake aggregator launched, Broker News reported that 12% of its first 600 leads went on to order (Broker News). The rest are still people who wanted a car, and many of them are sitting in a broker’s CRM.
Brokers who buy from aggregators often pay a fixed fee plus a charge per enquiry, as with Leasing.com’s pricing structure (Broker News). At the same time, BVRLA figures reported by Broker News show a 36% fall in broker confidence on margins (Broker News). Getting more from enquiries you have already paid for matters when margins are tight.
Some applications are declined on credit and the customer goes quiet (First Vehicle Leasing explains the common reasons). Others were not ready yet. And existing customers coming towards the end of a contract are a group brokers keep talking about, because many simply extend or go elsewhere if nobody starts the conversation (Broker News).
It works in three steps: you send us your old enquiries, our AI texts each customer about the car or deal they asked about, and booked callbacks or visits go into your calendar.
Deal enquiries, finance applications, test drive requests and end of contract customers. A CSV export works; a CRM connection is optional.
A personal SMS about the car, deal or lease they asked about. It answers questions, checks what they need and when, and offers two times.
Callbacks with a lease or finance specialist, test drives or showroom visits go into your calendar with notes from the conversation.
The first message mentions what the customer originally asked about. When they reply, the AI holds a normal two-way conversation: which car, which dates, roughly what monthly budget, and when they would like to talk. In finance conversations it does not quote rates or payments; it books the customer in with your account manager. If someone is not ready, the system records when to come back to them. See how it works for the full process.
Every automotive business that sells to consumers works the same way: enquiries go cold, the AI re-engages them and books the next step. These figures are from live Setterly campaigns.

Answered a question about which cars were available, captured the brands and dates, and booked a callback with a lease specialist.
It is for UK automotive businesses that sell to consumers and keep a list of past enquiries: car leasing brokers, car dealers and car finance brokers. Each has its own page:
Leasing brokers need both. New car leasing leads from aggregators, ads and comparison sites cost money up front with no certainty of an order, but they bring in people shopping today and grow your database. Reactivation is free to start, you pay per booked callback, and it works on enquiries you already generated.
| New leasing leads | Lead reactivation | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Paid up front per enquiry, click or listing | Free to start. You pay per booked appointment |
| What it gives you | Customers comparing deals right now, and a bigger database | Callbacks from people who already enquired with you |
| Lead quality | Set by your channels and deals | Set by your own lead generation: the same enquiries, worked again |
Because reactivation works on your own enquiries, the quality of what it books follows the quality of your new lead generation. The two work best side by side.
It can be, if the rules on electronic marketing and data protection are followed. PECR includes a soft opt-in for people who gave you their details while asking about similar products or services, provided they were offered a simple way to refuse and every message offers one (ICO guidance).
Each Setterly message identifies your business, gives the customer a way to opt out, and anyone who opts out is not contacted again. We work only with your own enquiry data, under UK GDPR. See our trust and GDPR page. This is general information, not legal advice.

They are related. Data mining and equity mining are US dealer terms for using customer and finance data to find people worth contacting about a new car. Lead reactivation is broader: it goes back to anyone who enquired and did not buy, and books the next step.
Deal and stock enquiries that did not convert, finance applications where the customer could not be reached, short-term and long-term lease enquiries, old test drive requests and customers coming towards the end of a lease or finance agreement.
No. In finance conversations it explains that rates and payments depend on the customer's own circumstances and books a call with your account manager, who handles that part.
If the enquiries are yours to contact under the terms you received them, yes. We look at where your data came from with you before a campaign starts.
No. A CSV export is enough to start. A CRM integration is optional and carries a one-off fee, agreed with you before any work starts.
